Today my neighbour and i would be taking a day trip to San Francisco, sort of a mini mileage run i guess you could call it, we had found some great discounted fares and decided to spend a full day in the city.
We would be flying up with Southwest and returning later in the day with United.

We met downstairs in the lobby at 5:50am and hailed a cab to the airport, there is not much traffic this early on Saturday morning and we were at San Diego airport by around 6:05am. We had already checked in online so we headed straight to the security line.
I’ve been through San Diego airport countless times and never had a problem, not that we were in a rush, but time was pressing on as boarding was being called in 20 minutes. As you might guess I got chosen for a random search and bag inspection which added more time to me getting through security and it had been a while since I had been randomly selected, but as usual I passed with flying colours and was allowed to clear security with enough time to grab a morning coffee.

We were departing from gate 6 and Boarding was called right on time at 6:40am, I had position A32 this time around and boarded almost first and was able to snag two seats at the front of the plane, it always great when you can be in the first few rows on a southwest flight.

Boarding was done very quickly as it was an early morning flight, I always find boarding seems to be quicker on very early flights than ones in the afternoon or evening, maybe it’s because its more business travellers or people who love to travel early and avoid the once a year vacation makers.

I still really enjoy the amount of legroom you get on a southwest plane, i know the pitch is pretty standard but my knees don’t seem to touch the seat in front of me.

Once the door was closed we were ready for departure.
San Diego airport has a curfew and the first flight out is cleared for take off at 6:30am, A lot of flights depart between 6:30am and 6:45am , so you find there is always a bit of a wait on the ground waiting in line for take off.

We settled into our seats and prepared for take off. I was able to snap a few pictures from the window whilst we waited for take off

Within about 20 minutes we had reached our cruising altitude, we had filled for 36,000 Ft , but ended up flying 40,000 Ft for most of the flight. This was an incredibly smooth flight and not a cloud in the sky from the moment we took off until the moment we landed and was a perfect day to fly.

The flight was going to be quick, but the flight attendants were able to come around and offer the morning drinks service and the fantastic free peanuts for everyone to enjoy.

Once the drink service had finished up we began our decent in San Francisco.
Before we knew it we had touched down in San Francisco and had enjoyed the great service from Southwest, it was just a quick 1hr 11m fight but the service and smiles had been great on Southwest.

We arrived and prepared for an action filled day in SFO.
