Take Off from San Jose,CR

Trip Route Map

Sadly our time in Costa Rica had come to an end and it was time to head back to San Jose airport for our flights home.

Goodbye Costa Rica

Goodbye Costa Rica

We arrived at the airport with plenty of time to spare and went to check in before our flight. Before you can leave Costa rica you need to buy a pass to leave. This can be purchased at the airport for $25 USD but you have to wait in line there and then your check in line. To bypass this line we paid $30 USD at our hotel the night before we left and this avoided the extra line at the airport.

The check in line was American airlines was pretty long and it took about 20 minutes to go through and collected our boarding passes.

Once we collected our boarding passes we headed through security. The line was also pretty big here and this took around 30 – 40 minutes from start to finish. Once we cleared security i checked the departure board to make sure our flight was still running on time.

We took a wonder around San Jose Airport and looked in some shops and ended up buying a Costa Rica coffee mug and some other small items.
Before we knew it our flight was boarding so we headed to the gate.

I took a picture of our Boeing 757-200 that was going to be taking us to Dallas Ft Worth. These were once the pride of the American airlines fleet and now they are the 20 + year old work horses that are soon to be retired.

Boarding was fairly comical as always with most American carriers and there were the several thousand groups that got called in order, first off executive platinum , then platinum, then gold, then group 1, then 2, then 3. Thankfully we did not have to wait long as we were in group 1 on this flight.

When boarding the plane i took a few pictures of the old cabin of the 757

I settled into my seat, which in fairness had some pretty decent leg room for a economy cabin. This is mainly because of the older style seats that give me an inch more leg room.

Everyone was settled in and ready to go and then the captain came on to give us some news about our flight.

First off he informed us that because of airport maintenance we would have to taxi down the runway for take off as the taxi way was closed and that this would cause a 10 minute delay whilst other airlines landed on the same runway.

I took a few more photos of the cabin while we waited.

We waited the 10 minutes and then the captain came back on to let us know that a passenger onboard did not have the correct passport documentation to be on a flight to united states. They made him walk to the front of the plane for a discussion on his legal status in the US. This took about 20 – 30 mins to solve and the passenger was then allowed to stay on the flight to Dallas after checking his Visa paper work.

We then began our Taxi down the runway for take off passing a few other planes

We reached our take off marker and turned and prepared to take off on the runway in reverse. I think this was also something to do with the massive storm cell coming in on from the reverse side of the airport.

Take off was fairly smooth and there were a few bumps going through the clouds, but overall the Boeing 757 handled it pretty well.

About 45 minutes into the flight it was time for the Economy Class breakfast to be served. As i have said before for a 3 hr + flight i can’t complain as its still free food.

Todays offering for breakfast was either a Ham Omlette or French Toast
I went with the french toast on this occasion as I’m not a fan of having Ham in Omlettes.

I’m thankful that we got something to eat on this flight, but overall it was pretty awful. The french toast was soggy and wet and had no flavour to it at all.

On the way to Dallas

After breakfast the rest of the flight was nice and smooth and after our delayed departure we made up the time in the air and arrived pretty much exactly on time into DFW.

This time around on our return connection we had much more time to make our connecting flight and did not have to run to the next gate to make it in time.

Immigration in Dallas was pretty quick and the usual questions were asked, we then proceeded to the baggage claim and collected our bags to recheck them onto a domestic flight. We then had to go through the domestic security screening again, which can be annoying, but thats something that will probably never change.

We arrived at our gate with about 20 minutes to spare before boarding so we just took some time to relax, i managed to find a wall outlet to charge my phone with.
Shortly after boarding was called and we made out way onto the plane

Once onboard i made myself comfy in my new seat 20A. This was a nice newish American Boeing 737-800 series aircraft.

We left the gate on time and did some venturing around DFW airport, this place is so big, i remember we crossed over a freeway to find out departure runway, we lined up and were cleared for take off. The initial climb had a few bumps on the way out due to cloud cover.

Take Off from DFW to LAX

The rest of the flight was really smooth and we got to watch an amazing sunset from the plane. I did not have a lot to do on this flight so i watched the movie R.I.P.D, which i have to admit was pretty terrible.

As the sun set we made our way down to LAX for a nice smooth landing and overall a pretty enjoyable flight home.

After we landed the crew invited me into the cockpit to take around and snap a photo or two, i always love it when crew’s are this friendly.

Overall we had some great flights with American on this trip, they ran on time, all four of the flights were fairly smooth and service was nice as it could get for Economy.
